April 2008

April 2008 marked the middle of what became a nearly three-month "sabbatical" from aircraft building. I got a lot of good tips from the sonex groups on Yahoo, including making a decision on strobe lighting. Budgetting for the lighting expense involved the usual April hair-pulling, dreaded battle with TurboTax, which took up what little spare time I did have.

Another factor in the building hiatus was a major system upgrade at my day job. I am the Unix systems administrator at a biotech research laboratory, and I spent the entire month of April, weekends included, working with the software vendor to upgrade systems and migrate databases on one of our larger laboratory information systems. Getting too old for these marathons. Last time I worked long hours seven days a week for an extended period was in 1979-1980.
